Why it matters
The case suggests that visitors referred by AI arrive further along in their decision, so modest AI traffic can be worth more than a larger volume of search clicks. These are the agency’s own figures from a test on its own website.
Case details
Background
This was a test Go Fish Digital ran on itself. The digital marketing agency applied the GEO playbook it sells to clients to its own website first. The goal was to make it easier for buyers researching “which GEO agency to hire” to find and contact it inside ChatGPT, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. The case study was written by Patrick Algrim and published on September 24, 2025.
What they did
- Prompt mapping: listed the core questions around “GEO agency”, evaluation questions such as “what’s the difference between a GEO agency and an SEO agency”, and deep-research style queries.
- Baseline: identified AI-referred traffic with a GA4 regex filter (chatgpt.com, gpt, copilot), analyzed AI crawler visits in server logs, and used third-party visibility tools such as Profound alongside in-house tools.
- Cornerstone content: built 5-8 information-dense pages with statistics, original viewpoints, external citations, schema markup, tables, FAQs and internal links.
- Follow-up question pages: added pages on the adjacent questions buyers ask next, such as SEO vs. GEO comparisons and GEO beginner guides.
Results and data
The study reports that in roughly three months (under 90 days), monthly traffic from AI sources such as ChatGPT grew 43%, monthly conversions from the same AI sources grew 83.33%, and leads from AI sources converted at 25 times the rate of traditional search. It gives no absolute traffic or conversion numbers and no baseline.
What to take from it
Listing the questions buyers will actually ask, and only then deciding which pages to write, fits how generative search retrieves content better than piling up articles by keyword. Separating AI-referred traffic in analytics before launch is what makes it possible to judge later whether the work paid off.
Limits
This was an agency marketing itself, on a single website, with no base numbers published; percentages on a small base can look large. The test targeted English-language ChatGPT, Copilot and Google AI products. Companies in China face platforms such as Doubao, DeepSeek and Kimi, which crawl and cite differently, so the results need fresh validation there.
