Doubao, Yuanbao, Kimi and DeepSeek: how to test brand visibility on each
Test brand visibility on Doubao, Yuanbao, Kimi and DeepSeek separately, by entry point, web-search state, question set and citations, before judging any platform.
Whether the goal is GEO on Doubao or getting recommended by DeepSeek, the first step is the same: record real answers on each platform separately. Without a current question set and citation records, you can’t say which platform suits your brand, and you can’t infer one platform’s results from another’s.
For readers outside China: these are four of the most widely used AI assistants in the Chinese market. Doubao is ByteDance’s assistant, Tencent Yuanbao is Tencent’s, Kimi is built by Moonshot AI, and DeepSeek is the chat product from the lab of the same name. For a Chinese buyer they play roughly the role ChatGPT and Perplexity play in the US.
One checking method for all four platforms
| What you’re testing | What to confirm | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| GEO on Doubao | Which app or web entry point was used; web search on or off | Brand entity, business description, whether citations support the conclusion |
| Getting recommended on DeepSeek | Answer mode and whether search is enabled | Exact question wording, recommendation context, factual errors |
| GEO on Yuanbao | Entry point, account conditions, question version | How answers map to citations; changes over time |
| Brand visibility on Kimi | Entry point, language, retrieval conditions | Whether the brand appears correctly, sources, unanswered items |
The table sets recording requirements; it is not a comparison of the four products’ current features. Any mode or source the interface doesn’t show should be marked “unknown” — don’t assume which model or which sources were used.
Test first, then decide where content goes
Build a sample from real buyer questions, fix the language, region and test window, and keep every raw answer. Separate web-search and no-web-search results. Log failed requests on their own — a failure is not the same as “not mentioned”. Decide the number of repeats and the counting rules before you start.
The distribution of cited domains hints at which sources get used, but a group’s own websites showing up a lot does not, on its own, prove that the platform weights its parent company’s content higher. The next step is to check why those pages answer the question and whether they carry independent evidence — then decide what material you need to add.
Get the shared work right first
Accurate public facts, a consistent brand name, accessible pages, and content that helps buyers decide are the foundation for every channel. How each platform handles that material still has to be tested; nobody should promise that one rewrite takes effect on every entry point at once.
Overseas markets need their own language and buying-question samples; the method is in checking visibility on ChatGPT and Perplexity. Chinese and overseas results can’t be merged or compared directly.
How to report findings
A report should state results as “on this date, on this entry point, across this set of valid answers”, with the sample size and the number of failures. Historical client snapshots show what a record looks like; they don’t represent a platform’s long-term behavior. Our Kechuang Yihao and Shanghai Industrial Transformation institute records each carry a clear date and sample scope.
When a retest shows a change, check the edits, the cited pages and the test conditions before claiming a particular edit caused it. The full metric set is in how to measure GEO; for hands-on help, see GEO consulting.
